North Dakota.  It was founded on June 18, 1900, and named after Surrey, England by officials of the Great Northern Railway.  The name derives from its definition meaning a light four-wheeled horse-drawn carriage; has two or four seats, with wheels drawn by one or more horses.

Official incorporation of the City occurred in 1951.  Since then the town has grown and continues to grow.  The population was 1357 as of the 2020 Census and part of the Minot Micropolitan Statistical area.
