SURREY CITY COUNCIL
TAX EQUILIZATION MEETING
MONDAY, MAY 15, 2006
Present were Mayor Steve Fennewald, Council Members Terry Johnson, Blaine Klein, Dana Larsen, and Laura Volk. Also present were Assessor Don Siebert and City Auditor Elaine Christianson. Absent was Council Member Jarvis Sasse.
Mayor Fennewald called the meeting to order at 7:05p.m.
City Assessor Don Seibert presented the taxable valuations. The council reviewed the assessments. Residential structures will increase an average of 14.2% for Surrey, due to the strong housing market. Ward County overall taxable valuations will increase an average of 14%.
Resident Barb Koble questioned the increase on her home. She owns a 700 square foot house, which is over 100 years old. Assessor Siebert explained that replacement cost is considered when assessing houses.
Resident Peter Yung questioned the increase on his home. Assessor Siebert explained sales in Surrey have been high compared to the assessed values of the homes. Also, Mr. Yung had added a deck to the home. Mr. Yung explained he removed a sunroom when he added the deck. Assessor Siebert will make the necessary adjustments.
Resident Ray Volk wanted to see what the average increase was on other homes as his increased 15.5%.
Johnson made a motion to approve the 2006 taxable valuation assessments. Klein seconded. All aye, motion carried.
